It’s sometimes hard to find the time to settle down in one place long enough to learn a language. Maybe you enjoy traveling, you have too busy of a schedule, or you have to leave on business trips. No matter what your reason, it is just not convenient for you to meet with a teacher in person regularly. More and more people like you are now turning to online classes to advance their career or just do something they have always wanted to. Some think that learning a language online is not as rewarding since you don’t have that same interaction with your instructor, but with advances in technology this problem has been resolved. Using the platform WebEx, students at MiLanguages can meet face-to-face with instructors, meet from a computer or even an ipad, and can record and replay their lessons. All you need is an Internet connection. MiLanguages online language training sessions are designed to feel as close to a real meeting as possible. Instructors can work flexibly with you to set up a schedule that works best for you. And since it’s online, you can meet one day while you’re in the United States, and the next when you’re in Japan. Online language training is also great for the rare, lesser-studied languages. If you live in a small town in the middle of nowhere, it is unlikely you would find someone in town to teach you Swahili.

Students in a MiLanguages’ culture-training course will be taught about cultural traits from everyday customs to unusual traditions. Companies using our training develop an edge that sets them apart from others, by showing their in-depth knowledge and care for the culture they are conducting business in. It makes all the difference in the world when an executive from China or Japan can see and appreciate your efforts to communicate on a deeper level. Even if your business meetings with global companies are in English, it will be beneficial to know the proper greetings, expressions and gestures you may encounter.

MiLanguages understands that these new places can feel overwhelming, like a new world, and it takes more than just language classes to adjust. MiLanguages believes that international relations is a skill that must be learned, consisting of oral communication and the understanding of foreign cultures. In new cultures, it is imperative to know more than just the language you are performing business in. Our company accomplishes this by teaching correct pronunciation, the latest idioms and expressions, and most importantly, the culture of the business destination. Our cross- cultural training not only increases cultural awareness, but also motivates our participants to understand a new culture through the unspoken language and other traits.

Localization is a valuable part of translation services that makes the difference when determining whether a product or service can survive in a new country. It is the process of adapting a text to a new culture in more ways than just changing the language. It means customizing to a target audience within a country, taking into account their specific dialect, idioms, culture, customs and interests. In addition to the style of the text, localizing includes changing aspects of the text such as time zones, national holidays, currency, and geography.

This week at MiLanguages our team underwent a three-day project management and business development-training seminar hosted by our Vice President of Operations, Luke Farkas, and Vice President of Business Development, Eugene Gligor. The program reviewed various techniques, qualities and roles of a good project manager while learning how to manage a project flawlessly from start to finish. These techniques included critical thinking and problem solving skills that together can provide the best quality of service for MiLanguages’ clients. Collectively the team worked through case studies to practice these skills. Perhaps the most valuable lesson they learned is to always stay two steps ahead of the project to ensure issues will be solved ahead of time as the project progresses.

The Communicative Method, also known as the Communicative Approach, is a proven technique for teaching secondary or foreign languages. MiLanguages, a company offering many language services, including language training, accredits much of their success to this method. It is a fast and effective way to reach the goal of improving students’ communication skills and achieving a working level proficiency in a new language. What differentiates the Communicative Approach from other methods of language learning is the interaction and use of only the target language in the classroom. Real language communicative rehearsal takes the student further than the classroom, making learning more enjoyable and effective.

A Critical Language is a term the United States Government uses to describe a language that, due to current events, is necessary for a number of U.S. citizens to speak. Generally these languages are highly critical to learn, but have a lack of available bilingual instructors. This list changes over time, through economic and political influences that place a demand on certain languages. With new business ventures that require language training, Chinese (Mandarin) and Japanese have been added to the list. Similarly the ongoing war in the Middle East requiring government language training has pushed languages such as Arabic, Urdu, and Farsi onto this list.
