PRESS RELEASE: MiLanguages: The Communicative Approach to Language Learning

The Communicative Method, also known as the Communicative Approach, is a proven technique for teaching secondary or foreign languages. MiLanguages, a company offering many language services, including language training, accredits much of their success to this method. It is a fast and effective way to reach the goal of improving students’ communication skills and achieving a working level proficiency in a new language. What differentiates the Communicative Approach from other methods of language learning is the interaction and use of only the target language in the classroom. Real language communicative rehearsal takes the student further than the classroom, making learning more enjoyable and effective.

The MiLanguages team and other followers of the Communicative Approach believe language learning should not be limited to textbooks, but instead be interactive and conversational. Lessons are adapted to the interests of the students by employing newspapers, short stories, videos and more, rather than outdated material. Reading and writing are still practiced, however they are taught in creative, less traditional ways by reading aloud, translating, rehearsing, simulating, discussing and summarizing. Students are taught to focus on meaning and forming messages as opposed to memorizing grammar and perfect language structure. Instructors use interactive activities such as role-playing, games, group work, and interviews in their lessons. Everyday language (including slang) is taught to simulate how language is actually spoken in a given culture.

By the end of training, MiLanguages’ students will be able to go to a foreign country and manage their surroundings with ease, in many different everyday situations.
